Ukraine is 90% satisfied with European security guarantees – Zelenskyy

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said there has been significant progress on security guarantees for Ukraine, adding that Kyiv is satisfied with them by about 90%, in an interview with Poland’s PAP news agency on Dec. 20.
He said Ukraine is counting on guarantees from the United States that would require approval by the U.S. Congress. At the same time, the head of state noted that the specific details of such arrangements would be crucial.
“It is very important how our partners respond if Russian aggression is repeated,” Zelenskyy said.
He also addressed European security guarantees, noting that while not all of their provisions fully meet Ukraine’s expectations, the Ukrainian side is “90% satisfied” with them.
In addition, the president commented on a working draft of a peace plan, including the size of Ukraine’s army. According to the document, it would number 800,000 service members, which Zelenskyy said meets the military’s needs.
On Dec. 16, the Ukrainian president said there is a document outlining the presence of European security forces in Ukraine after a cease-fire, with the initiative to be led by France and the United Kingdom. He said countries in the so-called coalition of the willing have already defined their contributions, but implementation will depend on a cease-fire and decisions by national parliaments.
On Dec. 18, Zelenskyy said he still had not received a detailed response from the United States on mechanisms for security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of renewed Russian aggression.
It was also reported that the United States and European allies have developed a security plan for Ukraine with detailed guarantees, including an 800,000-strong army, weapons supplies, training and intelligence support.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
