Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in an apparent revival of U.S.-led efforts to broker a peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow, Zelenskyy said on July 22.

The conversation will be followed by a meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Manila on July 23, where the two are expected to discuss the Russo–Ukrainian war.

“Just spoke with the envoys of President [Donald] Trump, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner,” Zelenskyy wrote in a Telegram post.

“A good and important talk about how to energize diplomacy and bring peace closer. There is a need for dignified peace, and Ukraine is long ready for it.”

Axios reporter Barak Ravid confirmed the phone call.

“Ukrainian president Zelenskyy spoke today with President Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and discussed ideas for how to resume diplomatic efforts for ending the war, per source familiar,” Ravid wrote in a Twitter post.

On June 8, Zelenskyy held a call with Witkoff and Kushner, but the process later stalled as Washington refocused on the Iran war.
