Ukraine's Armed Forces to transition to corps structure — Zelenskyy

3 February 2025, 11:41 PM

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved a plan to transition the Ukrainian military to a new organizational structure, which will include the creation of corps, the president announced on Feb. 3.

In his daily video address, Zelenskyy noted that the appointment of corps commanders was discussed during the most recent meeting with the General Staff.

“These should be the most well-prepared and promising officers with combat experience and modern thinking,” he said.

“The military must be modern and, most importantly, value people.”

On the same day, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi announced the initiation of the transition to the corps command structure. “We are addressing the challenges of our time and working to strengthen the military, even in these difficult conditions.”

“The reform of the organizational structure of the Armed Forces is underway.”

In November 2024, Denys Prokopenko, commander of the National Guard's 12th Special Purpose Brigade ‘Azov’ called for changes in military command procedures and the establishment of divisions or army corps within the Defense Forces.
