Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Kharkiv – just 40 kilometers from the Russian border – with several photos from the trip posted on the president’s Telegram channel on March 22.
Zelenskyy met with city Mayor, Ihor Terekhov, presenting him with the Hero City of Ukraine award – for the heroic resolve of Kharkiv residents in repelling numerous Russian assaults.
“Thanks to the residents of this beautiful city, it defends our independence side by side with other cities of our country,” Zelenskyy said.
The president convened a meeting to discuss the situation in Kharkiv Oblast, specifically the reconstruction of de-occupied territories, fortification works, infrastructure repairs, and state assistance to the victims of the war.
He also presented military awards to Ukrainian soldiers who defended Kharkiv Oblast from Russian invaders over the course of the war.
Earlier on March 22, Zelenskyy visited frontline Ukrainian positions near Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, which remains the most intensely fought over locale of the past several months.
