Denmark ready to deploy peacekeepers to Ukraine
Denmark is prepared to send its troops to Ukraine if a European peacekeeping presence becomes necessary after a potential ceasefire in the Russo-Ukrainian war, Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said on March 10.
“It is important that we in Europe send the right signals—to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and to Washington,” Danish public broadcaster DR quoted Rasmussen.
“If it comes to a point where a European presence is required to secure a cease-fire or finalize a peace agreement, Denmark is, in principle, ready for that.”
Defense Minister Poulsen added that there are no concrete plans to deploy Danish forces at this time.
“No specific decisions have been made, as it depends on how events unfold,” he said.
Major General Michael Hyldgaard, head of the operational staff at the Danish Defense Command, is scheduled to meet with European military chiefs of staff on March 11. At that meeting, he will likely announce Denmark’s official stance on deploying its troops in Ukraine.
