Drones struck an ammonia
production area at the Cherepovets-Azot plant in Russia’s Vologda Oblast on
April 13, causing fires and thick black smoke, Ukrainian OSINT (open-source
intelligence) group CyberBoroshno reported.
The analysts cited a video posted by Russian Telegram channel Exilenova+ and said the footage shows black smoke coming from two of the plant’s three ammonia workshops. The two workshops together have a combined capacity of about 900,000 tons a year, CyberBoroshno said. The group also reported a possible hit to the workshops’ ammonia storage.
CyberBoroshno said the storage area had been reinforced with a metal structure to protect it from drones after the Russo–Ukrainian war started.
The group said the affected production unit accounts for about 6% of Russia’s ammonia output and that the Cherepovets-Azot plant accounts for roughly 10% of the country’s total ammonia production.
