Emergency power outages continue in Odesa after Russia’s attacks damaged the city’s energy system, regional Gov. Oleh Kiper said on Dec. 30.

He said the city’s life-support systems are operating normally.

At the same time, DTEK continues to impose forced emergency outages because of strain on the power grid damaged by shelling.

“Because of the lack of electricity in Odesa for more than two weeks, unfortunately, electric public transport has been idle,” Kiper wrote.

He said that overnight the Defense Forces worked to ensure residents of Odesa could sleep safely. The head of the Odesa regional administration added that municipal services were cleaning the city, treating roads with de-icing agents and removing trees felled by gusty winds.

Russian invaders have been striking Odesa Oblast almost continuously for more than two weeks, targeting energy facilities and port infrastructure.

On the night of Dec. 30 in Odesa, an explosion was heard during an air raid alert after a warning of a ballistic missile threat.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
