EU Ambassador to Ukraine Mathernova described working at the bloc’s Kyiv delegation during Russian jet-powered drone attacks, saying columns of smoke had been visible from the office windows since early morning.
“Recently, within 15 to 20 minutes, we heard three powerful, deafening explosions. They were followed by huge columns of smoke. We could see them from our offices. We immediately left our offices and moved into the corridor. The photo shows how we are working now. The Russians are not letting us sleep, breathe or work,” the EU ambassador wrote on X.
Earlier on Sept. 23, the ambassador said columns of smoke could be seen from the windows of the EU delegation’s office after Russia struck a nearby site.
Drones struck several districts of Kyiv on the morning of Sept. 23, hitting gas stations in the Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi districts. Drones were also reported to have struck a business center, warehouses and other nonresidential buildings. Two people were killed and 25 injured, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
Several Telegram channels reported explosions and strikes near Kyiv’s railway station during the attack by jet-powered drones. The Kyiv City Military Administration reported a strike in the Solomianskyi district that damaged a commercial property.
After the large-scale attack ended and the air raid alert was lifted, Ukrainian Railways said neither of Kyiv’s main railway stations — Central Station and Darnytsia Station — had been damaged in the strikes.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
