Explosions rock occupied Crimea as fires spread in Krasnoperekopsk industrial zone

A series of explosions rocked Krasnoperekopsk, known in
Ukrainian as Yany Kapu, in Russian-occupied Crimea overnight on Aug. 10, with
multiple fires reported by morning, the Crimean Wind Telegram channel
reported. Drones were also shot down over Sevastopol overnight.
About seven explosions were heard in Krasnoperekopsk between
2 a.m. and 3 a.m., Crimean Wind reported. Subscribers reported a fire behind
the railway station near the industrial zone.
By the morning of Aug. 10, Crimean Wind cited NASA FIRMS
satellite monitoring data showing multiple fire hotspots in Krasnoperekopsk’s
Southern Industrial Zone.
“Russian troops store and repair their equipment there,”
Crimean Wind said.
Krasnoperekopsk, or Yany Kapu, is located in Crimea’s
Perekop district and is one of the peninsula’s industrial centers.
An air raid alert was also issued in Sevastopol on the
evening of Aug. 9 and overnight on Aug. 10, with drones heard overhead along
with gunfire, Crimean Wind reported. Gunfire and explosions were also heard
near the Balaklava thermal power plant in Sevastopol.
On the morning of Aug. 10, Sevastopol’s Russian-installed
“governor,” Mikhail Razvozhayev, claimed an overnight drone attack near the
city had been “repelled.” He said 15 drones were shot down, “mostly over the
sea and away from the coast.”
Razvozhayev acknowledged, however, that debris from the
downed drones set a forested area near Inzhir Beach on fire, creating two separate
fire sites. He added that people had to be evacuated from a campground at the
beach. Razvozhayev also reported falling debris near Fiolent Highway.
Power was also partially knocked out in Simferopol after an
explosion at about 4 a.m. on Aug. 10, though subscribers reported by morning
that electricity had been restored.
Drones also attacked Russia’s Tatarstan region on Aug. 10,
with an oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk believed to have been the target. A fire
was reported near the refinery.
