Russian drone wreckage sparks fire in Cherkasy high-rise overnight
A Russian Shahed drone attack sparked a fire in a high-rise building in Cherkasy, regional governor Ihor Taburets said on Jan. 31.
Debris from a downed drone damaged a balcony in a high-rise apartment, sparking a fire. Law enforcement removed the wreckage and the warhead.
The State Emergency Service later reported the fire was extinguished, with no injuries.
Overnight, air defense shot down six Russian drones over Cherkasy Oblast, according to regional authorities.
Earlier on Jan. 31, Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 102 drones overnight.
Air defenses shot down 59, while 37 were unaccounted for. The attack caused damage in three regions.
