Russian soldiers face one-month survival rate in Ukraine

28 November 2024, 11:56 AM

A Russian soldier has an average life expectancy of two weeks to one month after signing up for the war in Ukraine, Forbes wrote on Nov. 27, citing Estonian analyst Artur Rehi.

This is the result of the Kremlin's strategy to quickly capture as much of Ukraine as possible by throwing human waves of poorly trained and unprepared troops on the frontlines.

Despite catastrophic losses, Russia is not slowing down and is maintaining its offensive momentum on the battlefield. However, this “paradox” is unsustainable and there are signs that it is finally running out of manpower due to the state of the economy, high inflation rate, declining industrial investment, and the fall of the ruble.

To create the conditions for victory, Ukraine should continue Russia's great extinction, the strategy it has been pursuing since late 2023, which is to trade territory for the opportunity to inflict massive casualties on advancing Russian forces.

However, there are fears that US President-elect Donald Trump may persuade Ukraine to agree to an unfavorable peace deal at the very moment when "Russia is bleeding, broke - and weak."

According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as of Nov. 28, the losses of Russian army have exceeded 736,000 soldiers killed and wounded, including 1,220 in the past day alone.

On Nov. 26, The Economist reported that at least 60,000-100,000 Ukrainian soldiers could have been killed since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
