Ukrainian pilots can now remotely control interceptor drones and have confirmed shootdowns at ranges of “hundreds and even thousands of kilometers,” Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said on April 23.

“A year ago, through Brave1 we initiated development and testing of remote-control technology for interceptor drones,” Fedorov wrote in a Telegram post.

“Today we have a confirmed result — shootdowns at ranges of hundreds and even thousands of kilometers.”

Fedorov said Ukraine is the first country to systematically scale remote control of interceptor drones, calling it an example of defense innovation that could set a new air-defense standard. He said pilots are no longer tied to forward positions; a drone can remain effective while operators control it from a secure location in Kyiv, Lviv, or even from abroad.

The minister added that remote control increases interception effectiveness, reduces risks to operators, and allows capabilities to be scaled without being tied to the front. He said more than 10 manufacturers have already integrated the solution into their systems.
