Kremlin’s May 9 ceasefire offer meaningless, Ukrainian FM says

Ukraine did not receive any official proposal from Russia
for a ceasefire on May
9, and Moscow’s statements are “another attempt to curry favor with the
United States,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha told reporters on May
1.
Sybiha called the Russian move “another manipulation” and said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made clear that Ukraine has not received any such proposals.
He said Ukraine is fully committed to peace initiatives and has repeatedly expressed readiness for an unconditional ceasefire.
“It is important to focus on how to end the full-scale war and achieve a stable peace,” Sybiha said.
“These manipulative cease-fires that are not then honored by those who initiate them — the Russians — are a crude diplomatic maneuver. And second, it’s a PR stunt aimed at the domestic audience with these ‘parades of obscurantism,” he added.
The Kremlin said on April 29 that U.S. President
Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin discussed Ukraine, Iran, and
“projects in the economy and energy” during a phone call.
