Perm oil refinery stops after Ukrainian drone strike

The Perm oil refinery, Russia’s seventh-largest by crude processing
capacity, halted operations after being hit by Ukrainian
drones on Aug. 21, Reuters reported
on Aug. 24.
Citing two sources familiar with the matter, Reuters said that the refinery’s main CDU-4 unit was shut down on Aug. 21. The unit accounts for nearly 40% of the facility’s capacity and can process 14,000 metric tons of crude oil per day.
Repairs are expected to take one to two weeks, according to preliminary estimates.
Reuters’ sources also said another primary-processing unit, CDU-5, which accounts for 34% of the refinery’s capacity, has been offline since a July 29 attack.
The refinery has two additional crude distillation units, CDU-1 and CDU-2, each accounting for 14% of its capacity.
Lukoil, which controls the facility, did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
Located more than 1,600 kilometers from Ukraine’s border, Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez
is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries. It produces gasoline, diesel fuel,
jet fuel, and lubricants and is a key industrial facility in Russia’s Perm Oblast.
