Ukrainians share views on motives behind massive Kyiv attack — Radio NV poll

Radio NV asked its audience and listeners what they believe were the possible motives behind Russia’s massive attack on Kyiv and surrounding Oblast on May 24.
The poll, which surveyed 485 respondents, offered three possible answers to the question: “This strike on Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast…”
Twenty percent of respondents said it was simply another attack, arguing that Russian forces carry out such strikes regularly.
Another 19% said they believed the attack was “a message to someone,” noting that Vladimir Putin had personally amplified it.
The majority of respondents, 61%, said the strike showed signs of desperation over Russia’s failed war against Ukraine.
During the night of May 24, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Kyiv using strike drones and air-, sea- and ground-launched missiles.
Two people were killed and 69 injured in the attack.
“Thirty-six of them were hospitalized by medics. Another 33 received outpatient treatment or assistance on site,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
More than 40 locations across the city were damaged, including apartment buildings, private homes, shopping centers, educational institutions, a market, administrative buildings belonging to emergency services and police, and the main office of Ukrposhta on Maidan Nezalezhnosti.
The National Chornobyl Museum was destroyed.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, 690 aerial attack weapons were detected over Ukraine overnight into May 24, including 90 missiles and 600 drones of various types.
As of 9:30 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had intercepted or suppressed 604 targets, including 55 missiles and 549 drones. The intercepted missiles included 11 Iskander-M ballistic missiles or S-400 missiles and 44 Kh-101, Iskander-K and Kalibr cruise missiles.
“In addition, 19 enemy missiles likely failed to reach their targets. Information is being clarified and possible impact sites are being established,” the Ukrainian military said.
The military also reported 16 missile strikes and 51 drone strikes at 54 locations, as well as debris from downed drones falling at 23 locations.
