The cities of Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad and nearby areas are now on the main axis of Russia’s offensive, Ukraine’s Khortytsia operational-strategic group reported on Telegram on Aug. 1.
Russian invaders are continuing relentless assaults near Pokrovsk, deploying small infantry groups and intensifying strikes with glide bombs, artillery, and swarms of first-person view (FPV) drones, Ukraine’s Khortytsia operational-strategic group said on July 31.
Despite heavy losses, Russian troops are attempting to advance, but Ukrainian defenders are holding their ground and “destroying the invaders, disrupting enemy plans,” the military said in a statement.
“Russian invaders are destroying the city, just as they have other towns and villages in Ukraine. But Pokrovsk is fighting. Our warriors are continuing to destroy the occupiers and negate the enemy’s plans,” the statement read.
On July 31, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the situation near Pokrovsk remained under control of Ukrainian forces.
Earlier that day, Russian military bloggers claimed that Moscow’s troops had allegedly broken through into the center of Pokrovsk, a claim that has not been independently confirmed.
On July 29, Ukrainska Pravda, citing Ukrainian military sources deployed along the Pokrovsk front, reported that Russian forces were “rapidly stretching northward” along the Pokrovsk-Kostiantynivka highway toward Dobropillia, putting Ukrainian units near Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad at risk of encirclement.
On July 26, Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia group, said Russia had shifted its assault tactics and was now focusing its main efforts on the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka directions.
