Analysts suspect Russia used Rubezh missile to target Dnipro in recent strike
Russian forces likely used an RS-26 Rubezh medium-range intercontinental ballistic missile to attack Ukraine for the first time, Ukrainska Pravda reports, citing sources on Nov. 21.
The specific type of missile launched on Nov. 21 has not been confirmed, but Defense Express analysts say Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile over Ukraine for the first time to signal the potential for a nuclear strike. Experts suggest the missile may have been an RS-26 Rubezh, Topol, or Yars.
That morning, Ukraine issued a nationwide air alert over a ballistic missile threat, with explosions reported in Dnipro. The attack injured two people and damaged a rehabilitation center, an industrial facility, and residential buildings, according to authorities.
Ukraine’s Air Force later confirmed the missile was launched from Russia’s Astrakhan Oblast, marking the first intercontinental missile fired over Ukraine since the war began. Yuriy Ihnat, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Armed Forces, said no further details on the missile would be disclosed.
