Russia will not win war against Ukraine — Kellogg
Russia is unable to outright win its war against Ukraine and should therefore compromise on a peace deal, U.S. Special Envoy Keith Kellogg said on April 29.
Kellogg made the statement in response to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claiming Moscow could achieve a complete victory on the battlefield.
“Russia won’t win this war,” Kellogg told Fox News.
“In the last year and a half, Russia hasn’t achieved any serious progress. They’ve lost hundreds of thousands of soldiers and are advancing by meters, not kilometers. Meanwhile, Ukrainians are fighting fiercely on their own land. So, when Russia claims victory [is imminent], it’s just not true.”
He added that U.S. and Ukrainian officials have developed an elaborate, 22-step plan on how to procced with compelling the Kremlin into a ceasefire.
“There were some parts the Ukrainians didn’t like, but no final position will satisfy everyone,” Kellogg described the plan, drafted during the recent meeting in London.
“That’s normal in any negotiation. I think we’re in a pretty good spot with them—and when it comes to the Ukrainians, we’re very comfortable with where we stand.”
He said that Russia should recognize the shifting circumstances. Ukraine is in a strong position, and European partners are ramping up and organizing military aid without U.S. involvement — notably under the leadership of the UK and France.
“They are very, very ready to strengthen their support for Ukraine if needed,” he added.
Kellogg noted that neither side can achieve a total military victory and that the only way out is through diplomacy.
“I think the Ukrainians have come to understand that well after last week, and I think the Russians should understand it too,” he concluded.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
