Russian airstrikes on Kherson's Korabelnyi district killed one person and injured 22 others, including a 1-month-old baby and an 11-year-old child, the city's military administration reported on Oct. 17.
Head of the Kherson City Military Administration Yaroslav Shanko said Russian forces carried out two airstrikes within an hour, dropping eight guided aerial bombs on residential buildings and social infrastructure facilities.
The second strike occurred after medical personnel had arrived at the scene, killing an ambulance driver and injuring another medical worker.
According to the State Emergency Service, 10 multistory residential buildings were damaged in Kherson. The strikes sparked fires and left people trapped under rubble. Rescuers pulled seven injured people from the debris.
Overnight, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, Kh-22/32 cruise missiles, four Kalibr cruise missiles and 332 drones, including 31 jet-powered drones. Ukrainian air defenses shot down all four Kalibr missiles and 289 drones.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
