Russian attack damages Kherson water system, causing supply disruptions

Russian invaders attacked critical infrastructure in Kherson, damaging the centralized water supply system and causing disruptions even to scheduled water deliveries, city military administrators said on Dec. 14.
“At present, the Kherson City Military Administration, energy workers and water utility specialists are making maximum efforts to restore stable water supply operations,” the administration’s press service said.
It stressed that restoration work on power grids is ongoing and that efforts to stabilize the situation are being carried out in an intensified mode.
At 2 p.m., the city administration reported that specialists were stabilizing electricity and water supply. Water pressure in the system is expected to return to normal within a few hours.
“We urge residents to use electricity and water as sparingly as possible to avoid disruptions to the operation of energy infrastructure,” the city military administration wrote.
On the night of Dec. 13, Russia’s invading forces carried out a large-scale attack on energy facilities across Ukraine, leaving homes in Kherson and parts of the region without power.
On Dec. 4, Russian shelling in Kherson forced the suspension of operations at the Kherson thermal power plant, leaving more than 40,500 subscribers without heat. The regional military administration said it is impossible to predict when the plant’s operations will be restored, adding that residents will be provided with alternative sources of heating.
