Russia attacks railway in Donetsk Oblast, wounding two Ukrainian rail workers

Russian invaders attacked a railway in Ukraine’s Donetsk region with drones, wounding two Ukrainian Railways employees, the company’s chief executive Oleksandr Pertsovskyi said on Facebook on Jan. 13.
a locomotive engineer and a railcar inspector were wounded. Their condition is stable, and they are receiving medical care in hospital.
“The UAVs were not picked up by monitoring systems, but both workers were wearing protective service equipment — and that made a significant difference,” he said.
Pertovskyi added that the locomotive was also fitted with additional protection.
The head of Ukrainian Railways said railway workers were carrying out a purely civilian mission to transport energy equipment.
“Another treacherous, targeted strike on railway workers, another attempt to intimidate Donetsk Oblast. We will fully support our colleagues and do everything possible for their speedy recovery,” Pertovskyi added.
On Jan. 12, Russian forces carried out a series of strikes on Ukrainian Railways facilities. Despite the shelling and difficult weather conditions, trains continued to operate, the company’s head said.
Overnight into Jan. 13, Russia launched another massive missile and drone attack on energy infrastructure in several oblasts.
As a result of the shelling, consumers in the city of Kyiv and in Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Chernihiv and Zaporizhzhya oblasts were left without power by morning, Deputy Energy Minister Oleksandr Viazochenko said.
In a suburb of Kharkiv, Russia also struck a Nova Poshta terminal, killing four people and wounding at least six.
In Odesa, residential buildings were damaged in the attack, and six people were injured.
