Russian attack on Ukraine on Oct. 18
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia attacked Ukraine overnight on Oct. 18 with an Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from Russia's Voronezh Oblast, as well as 180 attack drones, including Shahed-type drones (26 of them jet-powered), S-8000 Banderol/Dan-T drones, Gerbera drones and decoy drones.
The Russian attack damaged critical infrastructure in Vinnytsia Oblast, causing emergency power outages across Oblast.
Russian forces also launched a massive attack on Rivne and its surrounding areas. Civilian infrastructure facilities were among the targets.
Russian drones struck an industrial facility in the town of Manevychi in Volyn Oblast, triggering a major fire.
"The wind is blowing toward the town, so I urge local residents to stay indoors if possible, keep windows and doors tightly closed, turn off ventilation systems that draw in outside air and avoid going outdoors unless absolutely necessary. The situation is difficult but under control," the regional military administration said.
On the evening of Oct. 17, Russia began attacking Ukraine with jet-powered Shahed drones and guided aerial bombs. A ballistic missile strike was also reported in Kharkiv, causing injuries. In Zaporizhzhia, Russian forces struck a residential building, killing a 27-year-old woman.
In Poltava, a Russian drone struck an area of private homes, killing one person and injuring two others. Four houses were damaged in the attack.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
