Russian occupation forces, after capturing Vuhledar, quickly advanced to the eastern flank of Velyka Novosilka, a key defensive point in Donetsk Oblast, according to a British Ministry of Defense intelligence report on Dec. 1.

British intelligence noted that Russia’s advances threaten Ukrainian defense positions from the rear, targeting key logistical routes.

The Institute for the Study of War warned that Russian progress in Oblast could lead to the encirclement of Velyka Novosilka, jeopardizing supply lines connecting Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhya oblasts.
