Russians have occupied the village of Nove in Donetsk Oblast and Novouspenivske in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, analysts from the DeepState project reported on Nov. 12.
In addition, Russian invaders advanced in Pokrovsk and Chunyshyne in Donetsk Oblast, as well as in Solodke, Rivnopillia, and Yablukove in Zaporizhzhya Oblast.
Ukrainska Pravda reported on Nov. 12 that Russian troops had been entering Pokrovsk with equipment and deploying mortars there since at least Nov. 6. According to the outlet, attempts by Ukrainian special units to clear the city of Russian forces came too late to change the situation.
Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said Russian troops are conducting a large-scale offensive in the Pokrovsk area, concentrating significant forces to break through the Ukrainian defensive line.
He said Russia’s goal is to encircle Pokrovsk and nearby towns from the north, south, and east, cut supply lines, and force the remaining civilians to evacuate, before making a “final gambit” to capture the entire Donetsk Oblast.
On Nov. 11, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces said Ukrainian troops had withdrawn from positions in the areas of Novouspenivske, Nove, Okhotnyche, Uspenivka, and Novomykolayivka in Zaporizhzhya Oblast.
