Russia’s Aug. 28 missile attack on Kyiv struck a factory operated by Turkish defense contractor Baykar, causing serious damage to its production facilities, according to Lviv councilman Igor Zinkevych.

In a Facebook post later that day, Zinkevich said two missiles hit the factory. He added it was the fourth Russian strike on the site in six months.

“Despite the war and previous attacks, the company [Baykar] kept investing tens of millions of its own funds, training personnel and preparing for launch,” he wrote.

“Most of the production facilities were almost ready; core crew have completed their training.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also mentioned “strikes on a Turkish enterprise,” without specifying the Baykar plant.

“These were strikes on a Turkish enterprise, on the Azerbaijani Embassy, the EU’s mission, the British Council, on residential areas,” the president described the Aug. 28 attack on the capital, shortly after speaking with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“This is [Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin’s response to all the efforts by Ukraine, the United States, and our European partners to stop the killing.”

Early in the morning on Aug. 28, Russian forces attacked Kyiv using Shahed drones, cruise and ballistic missiles, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. The city experienced a series of powerful explosions, with damage reported at 20 locations and up to 100 buildings affected. As of 9:00 p. m., at least 21 people have been reported killed in the city.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
