Sochi airport limits aircraft refueling after drone attack

Aircraft refueling at Sochi
International Airport in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai has been temporarily
restricted following a Ukrainian drone attack on a local oil depot, Russian
propaganda outlet Verstka reported on Sept. 4.
According to a NOTAM advisory, aircraft at Sochi airport can currently be refueled only by Lukoil because of technical issues. Airlines must confirm in advance that refueling is available from that supplier.
The restrictions are in effect from 1:35 p.m. Sept. 4 until 1:30 p.m. Sept. 5.
Russia’s federal air transport agency Rosaviatsiya also announced temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures at Sochi airport for security reasons.
Earlier, Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin said the city had been attacked by drones overnight on Sept. 4. A fire broke out afterward at the local oil depot. Russian air defense systems were also reported to have been active.
According to media reports, the oil depot is on
Aviatsionnaya Street, adjacent to Sochi International Airport, a major aviation
hub that ranked fifth in Russia by passenger traffic in 2024.
