Two Russian Su-34s hit in drone strike in Volgograd Oblast, Ukraine says

27 June 2025, 08:45 PM

Two Su-34 aircraft were destroyed at the Marinovka airfield in Russia’s Volgograd Oblast, with two other jets sustaining damage, Ukraine’s SBU security service announced on June 27.

The agency said the Russian multi-role fighter jets have been routinely used against Ukrainian forces on the battlefield, including to launch glide bombs.

According to the SBU, the attack was carried out with an unspecified number and type of long-range strike drones. Besides the damage to enemy aircraft, the attack also set a servicing facility at the airfield on fire.

The strike was likely carried out jointly with Special Operations Forces, as the branch also announced that a recent operation targeted four enemy aircraft on the ground, specifically mentioning Su-34 jets.

The Marinovka airfield has been targeted on previous occasions. Ukrainian drones attacked the facility in March 2025 and in August 2024.
