Russia hits Novhorod-Siverskyi with 20 Shahed drones and Tornado missiles, killing four

Russian invaders are heavily shelling Novhorod-Siverskyi in Ukraine’s Chernihiv Oblast, launching about 20 Shahed drone strikes, Oleksandr Seliverstov, head of the local military administration, reported on Oct. 21..
5:50 p.m. — Oleksandr Seliverstov said Russian forces attacked the city center using Shahed drones and Tornado multiple rocket launch systems.
4:40 p.m. — Chernihiv regional governor Viacheslav Chaus reported that the number of injured in Novhorod-Siverskyi had risen to seven. A 10-year-old girl was being transported to the regional children’s hospital, and one of the wounded was in serious condition.
He said there was extensive destruction in the city.
Updated at 4:33 p.m. — Regional police chief Ivan Ishchenko told Suspilne that four people — two women and two men — were killed in the massive Shahed drone attack on Novhorod-Siverskyi. Four others were injured, including a 10-year-old girl.
“Russian forces are conducting a massive bombardment of Novhorod-Siverskyi! There have already been around 20 Shahed strikes! Everyone should remain in shelters!” Seliverstov wrote.
Earlier, Smila mayor Serhiy Ananko in Cherkasy Oblast reported that Russian drones also attacked the city overnight.
He said a critical infrastructure facility was damaged, but according to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.
Ananko added that drone debris damaged a street transformer, leaving 154 customers without electricity. He assured residents that repair crews were already working to restore power.
“The emergency response headquarters is operating from the Smila City Council. Residents who discover damage are asked to contact the local administrative service center for assistance in submitting applications to the eRestoration program,” he wrote.
Preliminary reports indicated that nine apartment buildings, 10 private homes, 54 windows, and nine roofs were damaged.
During the night of Oct. 21, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Chernihiv Oblast, striking heating and energy facilities. According to consolidated data from Ukraine’s air defenses and Defense Forces, 51 aerial targets were recorded in the past day, including two ballistic missiles.
The Energy Ministry said repair crews in Chernihiv Oblast have been unable to begin restoration work due to ongoing Russian drone attacks.
The city council reported a complete blackout in Chernihiv, leaving the city without electricity and water.
Overall, on the night of Oct. 21, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with six missiles and 98 strike drones. Air Force units recorded missile and drone strikes at 10 locations.
