Ukrainian strike drones attacked two gas-condensate
plants in Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets autonomous district, traveling more than 3,000
kilometers to reach their targets, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces
announced on Sept. 9.
The message described the attack as Ukraine’s deepest strike against Russia since the war began. The Novy Urengoy Condensate Treatment Plant and Purovsky Condensate Processing Plant are in the Yamalo-Nenets, one of Russia’s key oil and gas-producing regions.
“Until today, this was considered an absolutely safe rear area for the aggressor,” the SOF said.
The facilities are critical to Russia’s gas-condensate industry. They prepare and process significant volumes of gas condensate extracted from fields in the Yamal region.
The Novy Urengoy plant has a designed annual processing capacity of 19.5 million metric tons of raw material. The Purovsky facility processed 13.4 million metric tons of gas condensate in 2025.
Dmitry Artyukhov, the district’s governor, said drone debris fell on “one of the city’s industrial facilities,” causing a fire. He said there were no casualties.
Ukrainian defense company Fire Point later said that its FP-1
drones struck the Novy Urengoy plant.
