Ukraine’s Defense Forces have destroyed more than 260,000 Russian fixed-wing and multicopter drones since the start of the year, the country’s Defense Ministry reported.

“The number of Russian drones destroyed on the front shows the decisive role technology plays in modern warfare. Effectively countering drones saves the lives of Ukrainian service members and civilians,” the ministry said.

About 195,000 of the drones were fixed-wing models, while another 66,000 were multicopters.

In July, Ukrainian forces destroyed 40,438 Russian fixed-wing drones, up from 27,711 at the end of May.

Confirmed multicopter drone shootdowns also rose, from 14,071 at the end of June to 19,945 in July.

On Aug. 2, as Ukraine marked Air Force Day, acting Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara said the country’s air defenses had destroyed more than 445,000 Russian aerial targets since Feb. 24, 2022.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
