If he posts bail, Ukrainets is prohibited from communicating with another suspect in the case, Volodymyr Kompanichenko, the head of the SBU security service regional office in Zhytomyr.
Authorities detained both men on Feb. 25 on corruption charges linked to construction of aircraft shelters.
Ukraine’s prosecutor general, Ruslan Kravchenko, said that in May 2025 some UAH1.4 billion ($32.5 million) were allocated to build prefabricated arched structures for aircraft. Inspections by the SBU’s military counterintelligence department, Kravchenko said, found serious violations: the designs did not meet safety requirements, the structures would not provide adequate protection for aircraft, and the cost of the work was significantly inflated.
According to the investigation, to conceal embezzlement of
public funds and halt audits, the Air Force logistics commander asked the
regional SBU chief to “assist” in bribing the leadership of military
counterintelligence. Kravchenko released recordings of conversations in which
the suspects discuss covering up the construction and arranging a bribe.
