Ukrainian director Mstyslav Chernov’s documentary 20 Days in Mariupol won two awards at the Grierson: The British Documentary Awards.

This year’s Academy Award-winning 20 Days in Mariupol received two British Documentary Awards, presented by The Grierson Trust in honor of British filmmaker John Grierson.

The documentary won Best Current Affairs Documentary and Best Cinema Documentary. The jury praised it as "an exceptional film with real power" and said it offers "painful and moving viewing" that goes beyond the news, adding that it will be remembered as a significant historical document.

The Grierson Awards also honored films covering topics such as a Turkish singer's recovery from tragedy, racism in the U.S., mental health, the lives of Muslims in modern Britain, and a Korean film club. British journalist Stacey Dooley received a special award for her social documentaries on child labor and women’s work.
