On April 19, a prisoner exchange brought home 277 Ukrainian defenders who had been held in Russian captivity.

The released prisoners include service members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the State Special Transport Service and the State Border Guard Service. They fought in Mariupol and other front-line areas in Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhya and Luhansk oblasts.

According to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, most of those released were born in 2000 or later.

Among them were 268 enlisted personnel and sergeants, as well as nine officers. A total of 77 of the released troops served under the Interior Ministry: 73 National Guard members and four border guards. Most had been held in captivity for nearly three years.

According to NV, one of the released prisoners is a woman who had been in captivity since 2022. Two of the freed soldiers are celebrating their birthdays today.

NV is publishing an exclusive photo report capturing the moment Ukraine welcomed its heroes home.
