At least 300 North Korean soldiers have been killed fighting against Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, South Korea's Yonhap news agency wrote on Jan. 13, citing the National Intelligence Committee’s (NIC) report.
According to preliminary estimates, the total number of casualties exceeded 3,000 soldiers, including 2,700 wounded.
This follows an earlier statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Jan. 9 that the North Korean casualties had exceeded 4,000 soldiers.
On Jan. 11, Ukrainian Special Operations Forces posted a video showing a captured North Korean soldier. In a comment accompanying the video, the SOF reported that a North Korean soldier was captured in Kursk Oblast and received immediate medical aid after being evacuated from the battlefield. The video also shows the evacuation process.
