After a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council regarding the situation with medical and social expert commissions on Oct. 22, Kostin announced his resignation. On Oct. 28, the President of Ukraine submitted a proposal to the Verkhovna Rada for Kostin's dismissal.
The Ukrainian parliament approved Kostin's dismissal from the position of Prosecutor General on Oct. 29.
According to sources cited by NV, Ruslan Kravchenko, the current head of the Kyiv Oblast State Administration, is expected to succeed Andriy Kostin as Prosecutor General.
Mass disabilities among prosecutors in Khmelnytskyi Oblast
The chief editor of Censor.Net, Yuriy Butusov, wrote on Oct. 16 that 49 prosecutors in Khmelnytskyi Oblast had likely obtained second-degree disability status through decisions made by the head of the regional MSEC, Tetiana Krupa, who is under investigation.
The Office of the Prosecutor General responded and stated that Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin had appointed an internal investigation covering all prosecutorial bodies.
Following this, the head of the Khmelnytskyi Oblast Prosecutor's Office, Oleksiy Oliynyk, stated that he had obtained disability status in 2017. He allegedly suffered an injury in 2005 while reviewing materials of a criminal case at work.
Oliynyk did not specify the nature of the injury but stated that "the illness does not interfere with the performance of his official duties." He added that the issue of his disability status was considered during an attestation commission with the participation of representatives from the public and international organizations.
Oliynyk also claimed that only 48 prosecutors in Khmelnytskyi Oblat had obtained disability status, out of a total of 255 prosecutors in the region.
"Therefore, it is not correct to say that the entire prosecutor's office consists of people with disabilities. Moreover, the disability of most employees was not obtained in recent years," the prosecutor said.
The Office of the Prosecutor General announced on Oct. 17 that Oliynyk had resigned voluntarily.
