Ukraine has returned another 35 troops and one
civilian from Russian captivity, presidential chief-of-staff Andriy Yermak said
on Telegram on Nov. 23.
“Another prisoner swap has taken place,” he said.
“We have brought 36 of our people home – one civilian and 35 servicemen.”
According to Yermak, those released included soldiers who had defended Mariupol, Azovstal steelworks, as well as military personnel from the National Guard who were captured at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the first days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In total, 22 National Guardsmen, eight border guards, four members of the Navy, and one soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were released from Russian captivity. Unfortunately, the civilian had his leg amputated.
Yermak thanked the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War for the service.
