Estonia to allocate $2.4 million to support Ukrainian energy sector

The ministry's press service noted that covering peak consumption in Ukraine during winter without international aid is impossible.

"Estonia's support for Ukraine is consistent and long-term," Estonian Energy and Environment Minister Andres Sutt said.

“Ukraine's energy sector today is not just an economic branch but a matter of survival. Every restored substation, every working generator means a warm home, a functioning hospital and a functioning society.”

The amount allocated to the Energy Support Fund will help cover urgent needs of Ukrainian energy companies, ERR wrote. This includes purchasing spare parts, generators and fuel, as well as emergency repairs.

Estonia previously allocated €620,000 ($729,762) to Ukraine's Energy Fund through the Foreign Ministry: €50,000 ($58,852) in 2023, €420,000 ($494,355) in 2024 and €150,000 ($176,597) in October this year.

Various countries have donated €1.44 billion ($1.7 billion) to the fund overall.

On Nov. 30, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said Germany allocated an additional €170 million ($200 million) to strengthen Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

On Dec. 1, the Energy Ministry said Germany is providing an additional €100 million ($118 million) for restoring Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

On Dec. 2, Sweden announced it will provide Ukraine with a winter aid package worth over €100 million ($118 million) to support power supply and repair damaged infrastructure.

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper announced an additional £10 million ($13 million) for restoring Ukraine's energy sector.
