The Australian Embassy in Ukraine will soon reopen and become fully operational, speaking at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said on Dec. 18.

The Australian Embassy in Ukraine was temporarily relocated from Kyiv to Lviv on Feb. 13, 2022, due to the Russian military buildup, and was then closed on Feb. 22 after Russian dictator Vladimir Putin recognized the "L/DPR" militant groups in Donbas.

“I’m very pleased to announce the resumption of the Australian Embassy. Starting next month, our Ambassador Paul Lehmann, who is here with us, will work in Kyiv, and in the coming months, our embassy will operate at full capacity,” Wong said.

The foreign minister reiterated Australia’s unwavering support for Ukraine, stating, “We stand with the people of Ukraine.”

“I hope to return here and see a peaceful Ukraine that has overcome the consequences of this war on your own terms,” she added.
