Austria does not impede the transit of military equipment and weapons from the European Union to Ukraine through its territory, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg, said in an interview with German TV channel ORF on July 2.

Schallenberg said that the transportation of goods between EU countries has always taken place without any issues, and that this transit does not violate Austrian neutrality.

“Since the signing of the Amsterdam Treaty and the reform of the federal constitution almost 20 years ago, these measures within the EU fall under the scope of neutrality,” he explained.

“This means that there is no opposition [to the transit of weapons].”

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer has hinted that his country, and other neutral countries, would not support proposals to provide guarantees of security to Ukraine on behalf of the EU.
