Azerbaijan temporarily closed airspace along its border with Iran after an Iranian drone struck Nakhchivan International Airport on March 5, according to data from flight-tracking service Flightradar24.

The attack on the airport was confirmed by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry. According to that report, two people were wounded. The ministry condemned the strike and summoned the Iranian ambassador to lodge a protest.

President Ilham Aliyev called the attack a “cowardly strike” and a “heinous terrorist act” at a meeting of the country’s Security Council. He demanded explanations and apologies from Iranian officials and called for those responsible to face criminal charges. Aliyev also said Baku does not plan military operations against Iran in retaliation.
