The Belarusian
parliament on April 2 approved a bill that would ban so-called "LGBT
propaganda" and advocacy of voluntary childlessness, state news agency
BelTA reported.
The measure adds nine new articles and 43 new categories to the country's code of administrative offenses and makes 73 changes to existing provisions. Among them is Article 19.16, titled "Propaganda of homosexual relations, gender transition, childlessness, pedophilia," which imposes fines on individuals and legal entities.
BelTA said that if minors are exposed to proscribed information, individuals could face community service or administrative arrest. Legal entities would face fines of more than $3,000.
For the bill to take effect it must be signed by self-proclaimed
president Alexander Lukashenko.
