New military exercises begin in Belarus

As Ukraine continued to fight a bloody battle of attrition with invading Russian forces in the Donbas, Belarus announced it was starting two days of military exercises on June 14.

A report from the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus on June 14 on the Telegram messenger said the exercises would be attended by senior officers, and would be led by the Deputy Minister of Defense for Logistics - Chief of Logistics of the Armed Forces of Belarus, Major General Andrei Burdyk.

“During the command and staff exercises, the Belarusian military intends to improve the coherence of the military command of logistic control with their subordinate forces during the execution of logistical support tasks,” the message from the press service read.

The military will “exercise the practical skills of the personnel of their subordinate military units and logistics support units in performing tasks in accordance with their assignment in a dynamically changing environment."

“These activities' goal is high-quality training for logistic support units to fulfill tasks of their intended purpose in the current conditions of the current situation, ” said the Belarusian Defense Ministry.

The press service did not give the location of the exercises, though Belarus and Russia have been conducting training close to the Ukrainian border in Belarus in recent months.

Russia has often used military exercises as cover for the launch of military aggression against neighboring countries in the past. Its troops were engaged in “exercises” ahead of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24.
