Minsk has not received official requests from Kyiv to withdraw troops from the Ukrainian border, Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anatoly Glaz told state-run news agency BELTA on Aug. 26.

“No official requests have been received from the Ukrainian side,” said Glaz.

“We only saw this message on the internet. You know, you can find a lot of things there. So we would appreciate it if someone could explain the logic behind such statements, which we find quite convoluted.”

He claimed that Belarusian troops are forced to carry out "tasks to ensure the security of Belarusian territory and our citizens" due to supposed Ukrainian drones' activities over Belarus.

Glaz also complained about alleged “constant provocations from the Ukrainian side at the border.”

On Aug. 25, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry called on Belarus to withdraw its troops from the Ukrainian border.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the Belarusian military has amassed a significant number of personnel, including Special Operations Forces and military equipment, in Gomel Oblast near Ukraine's northern border, under the pretense of training exercises.
