Under optimal conditions, a single IRIS-T SLM battery can cover up to 40 square kilometers (15.4 square miles) and engage targets at altitudes of up to 20 kilometers (12.4 miles), making it effective against drones, cruise missiles, and aircraft.
Each battery typically includes three IRIS-T SLM launchers; a TRML-4D air-surveillance and target-acquisition radar; a tactical operations center; a reload vehicle; and transport vehicles for spare parts.
Ukraine also received two additional IRIS-T SLS launchers. The report said Berlin has delivered two of the four SLS systems it promised for 2025 but may struggle to fulfill the rest with just over four months left in the year.
On July 28, Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, said Kyiv had taken delivery of seven of the 18 IRIS-T SLM systems pledged by Germany, with the remaining 11 to follow.
