An Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane with 67 people on board, including 5 crew members, has crashed in Kazakhstan, the Tengrinews Telegram channel reported early on Dec. 25, posting video from the crash site.
The plane was flying from Baku, Azerbaijan, to the Chechen capital of Grozny, Russia, but was rerouted due to fog in Grozny. It caught fire as it went down near the Kazakh city of Aktau. The fire has since been extinguished.
According to preliminary reports, at least 12 people, including one child, survived and were hospitalized. Fourteen ambulance crews were present at the crash site.
A collision with birds is reportedly a possible cause of the crash.
