A motorboat carrying 14 people capsized during a storm near the town of Sulina in Romania’s Danube Delta, killing four, including a child, Romanian outlet Adevărul reported on July 28.

Three people were initially considered missing but were later found and brought ashore. Tulcea’s Emergency Situations Inspectorate said the emergency call came in around 9:30 p.m.

Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, including firefighters, the coast guard, transport police, and paramedics. Local residents also helped using private boats.

The newspaper noted that six tourists had life jackets and managed to reach the shore safely on their own. Four others were found in a state of clinical death; resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Preliminary reports suggest the accident occurred during a sudden change in weather conditions. The search and rescue operation lasted several hours and concluded around 10:30 p.m. on the evening of July 28.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the incident. Weather is being considered a key factor in the tragedy.
