According to the statement, after evaluating the request submitted by Kyiv on July 9, the European Commission determined that the country had "satisfactorily met nine reform indicators." The aid tranche is still subject to approval by the EU Council.
The commission added that the EU-mandated reforms cover state management of public finances, state enterprises, business environment, and energy industry.
In a Twitter post, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that once the EU Council approves the aid tranche, the total funding for Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility will reach EUR 12 billion ($13.1 billion).
On Feb. 1, EU member states agreed to a four-year EUR 50 billion ($55 billion) Ukraine Facility aid program, which had previously been blocked by Hungary.
