The funds were transferred under the G7-led Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) program, which, short of seizing Russian assets, channels interest and revenues generated by them into supporting Ukraine.
According to Shmyhal, Ukraine has received approximately $17.6 billion via the ERA.
“Together with our partners, we are forcing Russia to pay for its crimes and destruction,” said the PM.
“We insist on the full confiscation of Russia’s frozen funds. They are essential for compensating those harmed by the aggression and for rebuilding our country. This will also serve as an act of justice to deter future aggressive wars.”
On June 25, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said Ukraine would receive 350 modern British-made air defense missiles, funded by the ERA program.
Bloomberg previously reported that the European Union is exploring “more aggressive” means to seize frozen assets of Russia’s central bank. The EU, along with G7 countries and Australia, has frozen about $280 billion in Russian assets in the form of securities and cash, predominantly through Belgium’s Euroclear clearing house.
