Zelenskyy arrived in Canada on Sept. 9 for a three-day visit. The next day, he met with Canadian PM Mark Carney and discussed Kyiv’s key needs ahead of an anticipated Russian winter bombing campaign.
“Today, we are discussing the winter support package and energy issues,” Zelenskyy said.
“Canada has made a significant decision today: a very important air defense assistance package. There is a major global shortage of such systems and the missiles used by them. We are grateful for this support.”
According to Zelenskyy, Canada is willing to join the Freyja program, currently being developed by a consortium of Ukrainian and European defense contractors.
Zelenskyy and Carney also discussed bilateral defense and economic projects, including a Drone Deal which, the Ukrainian leaders said, could be soon finalized.
On Sept. 8, Zelenskyy and his wife, Olena Zelenska, attended
the funeral of King Harald V in Oslo, Norway.
