Commander of Charter Brigade details NATO standards Ukraine must meet for membership

"NATO is an alliance of 32 countries united to protect each other, but how can they communicate effectively? With different languages, planning methods, and approaches to war strategy, NATO ensures unity through its standards. NATO's standards don't begin with tactical details like feeding soldiers or choosing ammunition, but with how battalions, brigades, and higher-level units plan together," explained Obolienskyi.

The commander of the Charter Brigade added that when brigades from Germany, the U.S., or the U.K. go on missions, each has its own planning method. NATO uses specific standards and planning documents to ensure all allies are on the same page.

"The first NATO standard is language. NATO has two official languages: English and French. Once soldiers can communicate at the tactical level and staff can exchange official documents, we will already be part of NATO," Obolienskyi said. "We just need to implement and understand these procedures, and NATO will accept us."
